Happenings, My own craziness

I like change.

I know, that goes against how most people feel, but I really like change. I like the changes in weather and I like the changes in seasons and most of all, I like the changes in myself.

So, here are some of MY changes:

1. I recently got on the scale and realized I’ve lost 10 pounds since the start of 2013! While we all wish for more, I’m pretty satisfied. Every time I’ve lost weight quirky, it all comes back, and then some. So I’ll take this. However, this change happened due to a few lifestyle changes: no soda, minimal snacking, no eating anywhere but at the table, no eating after 6pm. But hey, no real exercise, either! (I have to admit, this is really bad to say, but it’s the truth and I cannot lie: I HATE exercising. I just cannot like it.) But the weather will be changing soon and I’ll be back on my bike soon enough.

2. I’ve changed the design of my blog. I found a new theme/template, have added a few extras, moved things around and updated some things. Of course it could still use some updates/changes, so feel free to make suggestions. I’m all ears, or eyes, as the case might be.

3. I’ve had a change of focus. Now, don’t panic, but this year I will be doing more marketing and probably dialing back on the writing so much. His Jilted Bride was my 10th book. That’s a nice-sized backlist, and there are people every day who are just now finding me. To me this seems strange since I’ve been “here” for two years now, but it’s the truth. So in order to spend more time with my family and make those past books work more for me, I’ll be spending more time marketing them than I have in the past. So this change comes with some good things and the very obvious “bad” thing to some of you who can zip through a book in a matter of hours. I still intend to write and I’m still planning for there to be a book in April, then to start the next series this summer. But I’m going to try to be more social and interactive. Here are my “changes” by category:

~Facebook–If you don’t already know this, I have an author page over there. In the past, I’ve used it very infrequently and only to send out notices of important events such as new books and sales. I’m going to *try* to overcome my fear of social media and implement a few new features that include interaction. Should be interesting to say the least!

~Goodreads–Before I go further, I must make a real idiot of myself and admit that until about two years ago, I didn’t even know this site existed. Still, after two years, I rarely ever use it and don’t know half of what goes on at that site. But, lucky me, I know someone who does! Not only that, just this morning she has graciously set up a group dedicated to those who like my books. Please feel free to come join. I do admit, I don’t know everything that having such a group is capable of, but come on over to discuss my past books, ask questions about new ones, create polls and trivia questions, be on the look out for new and exclusive blurbs or opportunities for giveaways and early reads, and so much more! You can find it all right here: http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/96169-rose-gordon-fans

~Group Chats–I’ve been playing with the idea of this for a while now and I’ve finally decided to “go with it” and host a group chat. The first one will be on Tuesday March 5, at 7PM CST. That’s in a week from tomorrow night! I’ll be sure to post links for it just as soon as I get one final detail worked out.

And that one final detail is… I’m looking for 4-5 volunteers who can “meet” me at a designated time to try this out. If you’re interested, please email me.

  1. Oops — I sent that e-mail and didn’t get to make the comment — my computer is screwy today — sorry. Congrats. on the weight loss, Rose. I lost 110 lbs. since my knee surgery last year. I gained some of it back, then lost it again. All of your changes sound like great moves for your career. I was shy about social media, too, and kept saying “I don’t tweet, and I don’t use Facebook.” Now I do both. I am also making changes to my blog’s appearance and trying to get some actual writing done (haven’t done much except the blog since the end of December due to family emergency). I’m working on Christmas/Chanukah short story and another story that I hope will be included in an anthology — it’s due March 23rd. Good luck with all of your changes!

  2. I love the new design of the blog. And I’m usually one who is not big on change so there you go. I’m not to active on GR except for looking for books, but maybe I’ll get more involved with the group. As far as the chat goes, If I”m not working I will be there.

    1. Thanks! It was just time for something different. I changed it about a year ago, too, so it was just that time.

Thanks for joining the group. We’ll see how it goes. Oh, and the first official chat is next Tuesday at 7pm CST. Links to follow.

      1. I take it back. This new design and my phone don’t get along. Hard to check the blog when I’m not at home now since my phone will show only one word on each line. Other then that it looks good on all my other smart devices.

    1. Thanks! I had no idea I was even losing anything. I HATE the scale. I just don’t even get on it. In fact, for many years we just didn’t have one. But I had to get one for something and now we have the blasted thing… But it’s only from time to time that I drag it out and climb on top.

  3. Yay! I, too, love change… my friends laugh when they come over because the furniture in my living room will most likely be moved around. Kudos on the 10 Lbs you lost… I regret to report that I think I found them!
I am so technologically ignorant… I don’t use facebook, I don’t get tweeting at all, and I don’t do goodreads. But I know a lot of people do, so… all of your ideas sound like great moves. Holler if you need me for the group chat test. That sounds like a lot of fun. Can’t wait to hear how some of these things work out!
Oh, [PS] I’m assuming you’ll post a list of your upcoming appearances on your Goddess Fish book tour so that all your loyal fans can cyber stalk your virtual stops? 🙂 LOL

    1. LOL Have you ever considered a round, purple end table in your living room? I think that would be a good change!

Oh no, on finding my missing pounds. I do hope you can discard them in a place where neither of us will have to see them again. Ever.

I don’t get tweeting, either. It’s just mass confusion for a simply country gal like me and I have a GR account only because I was told I needed one as an author but I don’t do anything with it…

Of course I’ll be posting my tour dates. I think most have filled up. I’ve spent the last three days filling out interviews and now I’m exhausted!

By they way, I am counting on you being at the chat!

  4. Rose, I love the idea of group chats and in case the e-mail I sent didn’t get to you, I don’t know if you believe in weird dreams or things like that (kinda believe you do), the other night, while sleeping I was writing dialouge and suddenly I realized it wasn’t my writing I reading, it was YOURS! Weird dream, probably brought on by lack of food and fever, but really strange.

Share your thoughts--I'd love to hear them!
