Her Sudden Groom discounted to .99 for a good cause

I recently discounted the price of Her Sudden Groom to .99 at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords and Apple. Also recently, I’ve written on here a few times about preparing for a 150 mile bike ride from Tulsa to Oklahoma City along Route 66 to help support research for Multiple Sclerosis. So what do these two have to do with each other?

Everything.

For the entire month of July, Her Sudden Groom  will be priced at .99 and all of the royalties earned on this book will go toward my overall goal of $5,000.

Why $5,000?

I wanted it to be a reasonable and conservative amount based off what I could (in theory) earn and donate relying solely on royalties earned in a certain time frame from this book. Now, that’s not to mean that I wouldn’t LOVE to raise more and double or even triple this, I would, and I’ll modify the goal if need be. (It’s always easier to increase a goal, rather than come in short!) But having never raised money for a cause before, I don’t know what is and isn’t reasonable for a mid-list, no-name author to raise so I wanted to remain conservative.

How much of the .99 actually goes toward the pledge?

It depends on where you purchase the book:

Amazon: 35 cents

Barnes & Noble: 40 cents

Smashwords: 56 cents (at least, sometimes more if multiple books are purchased at the same time as the transaction fee decreases)

Apple/iBooks: 60 cents

All Romance eBooks:  59 cents

Kobo: 45 cents

That is my royalty cut for all of those places, and every cent I’d have earned will go toward this cause.

But wasn’t Her Sudden Groom FREE at Smashwords last week?

Indeed it was. I’d temporarily enrolled it in their annual sale, and if you were one of the 68 who downloaded it, thank you. I will pay the 56 cents for each of those which comes to a total of $38.10 that would have been added had it been a paid sale.

How will we know the progress?

I’ve attempted another progress meter. If you look to the far right, you’ll see it. It’s long and black, with just a hint of red on the left side, indicating the progress that’s already been made. I’ll be updating it Monday afternoons and sending out a post about the previous week’s progress on Tuesday.

How can you help?

Several ways:

  • Purchase a copy of the book for you–or a friend. Even “gifted” copies, which Amazon, B&N and Smashwords allow, the proceeds are the same and go toward the cause.
  • Make a direct donation using the PayPal button on the sidebar.
  • Most importantly, just spread the word! You may not like this kind of book, but someone you know might, so why not tell them about a full-length novel at a bargain price where all proceeds go toward a good cause?

One final thought.

I want to thank anyone who has already purchased this book or any of my others. I would not be in a position to make this possible if not for all of you. I appreciate all of your support more than you know.

About the book:

The overly scientific, always respectable, and socially awkward Alexander Banks has just been informed his name resides on a betrothal agreement right above the name of the worst chit in all of England. With a loophole that allows him to marry another without consequence before the thirtieth anniversary of his birth, he has only four weeks to find another woman and make her his wife. Being the logical scientist he is, Alex decides to take his friend’s advice and treat his quest for a bride just like a science experiment…

Caroline Sinclair is still trying to scrape her jaw off the floor after hearing her cousin, Lady Olivia’s, latest announcement when the object of their conversation, Alex Banks, Olivia’s intended, arrives for what Caroline assumes is a bout of drawing room chitchat with his betrothed. But when an experiment is mentioned, Caroline, who cannot resist a science experiment any more than she can deny her lungs air, volunteers to help before she even knows what his latest experiment is!

    • Good question. I’m thinking to put autographed books up on eBay (maybe) for those who’ve already purchased the eBooks but I will also work on getting a way to make a direct donation. Thank you so much for asking and being willing to help.

  2. I didn’t know that was why it was discounted! I’m glad I could contribute even if it was only a little bit.
