Ever read a book blurb and say, “Hey, I could write a better description than that!”
Well, NOW is your chance.
I am looking to change the blurb I currently have for Her Sudden Groom and I’m asking YOU to help me out, with the promise of a few prizes, of course!
My current blurb reads:
The overly scientific, always respectable, and socially awkward Alexander Banks has just been informed his name resides on a betrothal agreement right above the name of the worst chit in all of England. With a loophole that allows him to marry another without consequence before the thirtieth anniversary of his birth, he has only four weeks to find another woman and make her his wife. Being the logical scientist he is, Alex decides to take his friend’s advice and treat his quest for a bride just like a science experiment…
Caroline Sinclair is still trying to scrape her jaw off the floor after hearing her cousin, Lady Olivia’s, latest announcement when the object of their conversation, Alex Banks, Olivia’s intended, arrives for what Caroline assumes is a bout of drawing room chitchat with his betrothed. But when an experiment is mentioned, Caroline, who cannot resist a science experiment any more than she can deny her lungs air, volunteers to help before she even knows what his latest experiment is!
The problem? I’m not sure if anyone who hasn’t read the first three books would be intrigued by that enough to want to read it… Now, now, I know, shame on them for not reading the first three books to know just who Alex and Olivia are, but that’s just the facts, so I’m wanting to modify it enough to make others interested.
So what would YOU do differently? What would attract you—if you didn’t already know Alex and Olivia—to this book?
How to enter:
Think you have the perfect blurb? E-mail it to me! Send all blurb entries to: firstname.lastname@example.org
What you’ll win:
The entire rest of the Groom Series! One first place winner will receive Her Reluctant Groom, Her Secondhand Groom, and Her Imperfect Groom. All others who send in a legitimate* entry will also win a prize in the form of one of those books of their choosing.
How many entries:
Because I understand the phenomenon of sending something in, only to think of what you should have done differently after it’s been sent, I will allow for multiple entries. However, you may only win one prize.
Dates of contest/when winner will be announced:
This contest will run from now until October 12, 2011, when I will boldly enter my inbox and read through the entries. The winner will be announced—and receive their first prize, a pre-released copy of Her Reluctant Groom-on October 13.
By entering, you are giving up all rights to your blurb to me, Rose Gordon, for uses including, but not limited to: book description on my website, blog, ebooksellers list descriptions, back cover of paperbacks, or anywhere else I see fit. This includes non-winners as well as winners.
*A legitimate entry includes an honest attempt at a book blurb/description. All entries that are blatantly vague, off-topic, vulgar, offensive, inappropriate, or anything else I deem to be a false attempt, will be thrown out and prizes will be forfeited.
** Also note, I reserve the right to: a. end the contest at any time due to ‘gaming the system’, spamming, or any other reason I see fit; b. refuse to award a grand prize winner on the basis that none of the submitted blurbs can be used as is, or modified to reflect what I’m looking for. Thanks for understanding, and best of luck!
